George Washington Rodebush

George Washington Rodebush was born on April 21, 1835 in Coshocton Country, Ohio. George was a farmer by trade. He fought in the Civil War for three years. George died on December 31, 1924 and was buried on January 2, 1925 in a wooded graveyard near Fremont, Missouri.

George's parents are Henry (1st name unsure) Rodebush; born about 1808 in Pennsylvania and Nancy (maiden name unknown) Rodebush. Henry and Nancy had four children: the first; an unknown child born between 1820 and 1825, Catherine Rodebush; born April 8, 1933 and died March 13, 1914, George Washington Rodebush, and Barbara J. Rodebush; born about 1838.

George Washington Rodebush married Rachel Armstrong who was born on February 9, 1841 also in Coshocton County, Ohio. George Washington's younger sister Barbara J. Rodebush married Rachel's older brother George E. Armstrong; born about 1839 and died December 27, 1862. Catherine Rodebush married John McBride.

George and Rachel Rodebush had 14 children.

*It has been suggested that Henry Rodebush was not in fact George Washington's father since an 1850 census (that I have not seen) shows that Henry is 10 years younger than Nancy. It is thought then, that Henry may have married Nancy when his older brother died. Due to the following logic it could be the case that this man's name was William: George named his first daughter after his mother; Nancy. However, George did not name his first son Henry as might be expected. That was his middle name. The name he gave him was William Henry. He may have named his first son in honor of both his biological father and step-father. This is, of course, speculative.*
